Wompoo Eco Retreat

Accommodation in Daintree, QLD

Daintree rainforest is your destination for the Wompoo Eco Retreat located at Buchanan Creek Road, 11 kms from the Daintree Ferry. Once you arrive in Cow Bay you will pass the hotel on your right, then the popular Floravilla Biodynamic Ice-Cream outlet, turn onto Buchanan Creek Road and we are located first driveway on the right hand side.

Wompoo Eco Retreat gets its name from the `Wompoo Fruit Dove’, a beautiful dove with an amazing purple breast, green, yellow and white markings. This bird has a very unusual call.  Listening to the Wompoo is like listening to a human conversation, but seemingly muted and far away.

Our retreat is so named due to the presence of this lovely bird.

We have 2 Bungalows available, each with a king size bed, cooking facilities, outdoor bath and open shower. Since opening 18 months ago this delightful retreat has been awarded Airbnb Superhost status six quarters in a row. Read below why Jill and Peter has earned this status.

Minimum stay is two nights from $170/night. Enquire about discounts.

“My partner and I recently stayed at the Wompoo Eco retreat and had a wonderful visit. The room has beautiful views of Thornton peak and is located in a great spot in the Daintree. There was even fresh fruit left in the fridge for my partner and I to enjoy. I highly recommend staying here if you want to explore the Daintree.” Airbnb, February 2017.

“We had such a wonderful stay. Thanks Peter and Jill for your hospitality. We loved the outdoor bath, the comfy bed, well-equipped outdoor kitchen, homemade muesli and nice fresh local goodies for breakfast. Lots of lovely personal touches. Beautiful peaceful spot with insane views over the rainforest.” Airbnb, February 2017

The room is clean and pleasantly decorated. there are close areas to swim in cool fresh water creeks among the forest. Peter and Jill are great hosts and offer great tips of activities to do in the area. Checking in was easy as well as communication before and during arrival.” Airbnb, February 2017.

“Peter and Jill were friendly and helpful hosts. They gave us great tips for what to check out in the area during our stay, and had some tasty breakfast items for us as well. The property was stunning, as were the views. The little house was immaculately clean. A great breeze in the evening to keep cool as well. We love love to stay again!” Airbnb, January 2017.

“Absolutely enjoyed the digital detox, sensational views, amazing open bathroom, outdoor bath, big king bed.. and all the smaller touches such as home made soap, biodynamic milk, fresh fruit and an assortment of teas and coffee. Will definitely recommend and plan to come back, was made to feel very welcome and two nights was definitely not enough. Couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more if we tried.” Trip Advisor, December 2016.

“Refreshing change from reality very delightful host would back in a blink.” TripAdvisor, October 2016.

“A lovely little getaway from the hustle and bustle. We felt very lucky to have this experience in the Daintree.” Airbnb, December  2016.

“Absolutely loved our stay in Cow Bay! Being “off-the-grid” was an adjustment but good for us. Our little hut was well-equipped, beautifully decorated, and took full advantage of the beautiful scenery. Cannot recommend it enough! We stayed for 2 nights which was perfect for exploring the surrounding area.” Airbnb, December  2016.

“It was amazing place to stay, very clean and cozy, hosts are so friendly and cared a lot for us. We’ve seen stars a lot at night, outdoor bath and shower were sooooo romantic, refreshing. Loved breakfast with homemade jam, bread and all different types of teas, everything was good!” Airbnb, December  2016.

“Peter and Jill were wonderful hosts. They were able to help us out with things to do in the area. The place was fantastic! We’ve never seen so many stars at night and the views of the daintree were magnificent. Will be back to further explore.” Airbnb December 2016.

“We had a marvellous three night stay at peter and jill’s place. They are very approachable and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Their spacious unit is well designed for the climate of Daintree. The unit is on top of a hill with large windows. There was always a cool breeze at night so no need for fans at all. It is also screened so we could enjoy sleeping without mosquitos and other nightlife. Every item in the unit has a personal touch which made our stay just a little bit better- good quality linen, Jill’s handmade soap, small selection of books and magazines that reflect hosts’ good tastes and the breakfast with fresh milk, local fruit and freshly ground coffee. The outdoor bath is an absolute treat and the kitchen has gas burners with a hot plate so we could barbecue as well as cook other stuff. The unit is also very close to the many attractions in daintree so we could spend more hours of the day relaxing and not driving around too much. We loved sleeping to the sounds of the rainforest in our comfy king bed and being disconnected from the world for a few days. Would highly recommend this place!” Airbnb, November 2016.

“We can’t say enough great things about our two nights spent here! It was our favorite place that we stayed at on our entire two week trip to Australia. The owners really went above and beyond thinking of anything guests might need. The views were amazing and we really enjoyed cooking outdoors. The bread, fruit, muesli, coffee and teas provided for breakfast were delicious and all local. The bed was very comfortable! We tried out the rammed earth bath tub outside as well and loved being able to look at the stars! The homemade soap was wonderful and we bought some to take home with us. We appreciated the digital detox as there is virtually no cell service for miles. There is a lot of things to do in the area and they provided us with a book of brochures and ideas which we used! I would absolutely stay here again if we ever return to the area!” Airbnb, November 2016

“Had a really nice stay here, room was as described, nice views and location and Peter was very helpful with any questions we had.” Airbnb, November 2016.

“We enjoyed our stay with Peter. He provided us with some good local knowledge of the area and some great places to visit. The fruit and amenities were a nice touch. Would stay again. Thank you Peter” Airbnb, October  2016.

“We spent three wonderful days at this small hotel. Peter and Jill are very gracious hosts. The house is equipped with everything you need for a stay in the rainforest. Breakfast, good coffee, many teas, cereals and delicious fruits from the region will be provided for the stay. Enjoy the time with a cold beer in the small “pool” and looking at the stars! The homemade soap from Jill will remind us at home to the nice time. Many thanks for everything .”  TripAdvisor, October 2016.

“Digital detox sounded scary but as we sat in the cool of the evening watching the last rays of the sun, sipping cold wine and reading books we agreed we never wanted to leave. Our hosts Jill and Peter were fabulous, helping us with local advice and providing fresh fruits and delicious muesli for breakfast. This oasis, so close to everything in the Daintree yet so remote, is a hidden gem and I highly recommend it to all travellers. ”  TripAdvisor, October 2016.

“We had high expectations but even these were surpassed. Truest a magnificent, tranquil spot. Very clean and comfortable. The outdoor tub was divine. Cow bay is the most beautiful beach along the stretch and free from the tourist masses. Thank you Peter and Jill for a lovely stay.” Airbnb, October 2016.

“This place is spectacular. We cooked most meals in a great little grill and sink. Bird watching galore. And its right in the middle of Daintree.” Airbnb, October 2016.

“I had the good fortune of finding Peter and Jill’s and had numerous stays this past winter and left reviews with each stay. In my final review of the season I want to share what lovely hosts Peter and Jill were. Kind, accommodating, thoughtful. I am grateful I found them and their cottages.”  Airbnb, September 2016.

“Beautiful location tucked away in the Daintree. Peter was a great host and very knowledgeable about the different things to do while in the area. Loved sitting out on the decking at sunset and watching the wildlife. If you are going to self cater make sure you pick up all the necessary supplies in Mossman before getting the ferry across as there is limited stuff available locally. Breakfast was great and the unit itself very comfortable.  Airbnb, September 2016.

“This was the most incredible air BnB I’ve ever stayed at! Peter was so friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and the place was even better than the photos. A little slice of heaven!! I also loved the local tea and fruits that were provided as well as Jill’s unbelievable homemade soap. Thanks for having us!!!  Airbnb, September 2016.

“Wompoo Retreat was the BEST apartment we ever booked via airbnb!! :-) The place is so special and the views are amazing!! It is very quiet however – which we were really looking for. Peter and Jill have been just lovely to us – they were really helpful with booking local tours and did all phone calls for us. Awesome was also the pineapple from our own garden for breakfast, the open bathroom and doing BBQ on the terrace :-) GREAT HOLIDAY :-) !!  Airbnb, September 2016.

“Had a lovely time, Peter & Jill’s place is very relaxing and has amazing views of the rainforest. We saw a variety of birds and butterflies while relaxing at the lodge. Peter an Jill were both excellent hosts, we ended up buying some of Jill’s lovely handmade soap after using some of the samples that were in our bathroom.”  Airbnb, September 2016.

” Woah! What an amazing place and extremely lovely hosts! This place is everything you see in the pictures, the view is amazing and you can tell you are right in the daintree rainforest. The windowless bathroom is a great design and surprisingly there is no issues with bugs coming in. Peter and Jill supplied bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee, milk and cereal plus fruit! They are one of the kindest people I have met, very genuine and lovely to talk to and helpful with knowledge about the area. I will definately stay here on my next visit! Thank you Peter and Jill :)”  Airbnb, September 2016.

We had such a fantastic stay at Wompoo Eco Retreat. Peter and Gill are generous and kind hosts, always happy to stop for a chat and share their extensive knowledge of the area. The accommodation contained everything we needed to have a relaxing week, that involved reading, lots of rainforest walks, and beaches! The open air bathroom was a real treat, as was preparing meals and cooking outside, something we don’t get to do much in Victoria, especially at this time of the year! Thank you Peter and Gill for a great stay!! We’re looking forward to a return visit at some point in the future!”  Airbnb September 2016.

“Great place to stay at the Daintree. It just commands relaxation and regardless how busy they day has been seeing the sights coming back to this location is peaceful. Peter and Jill are great hosts and made sure that we had everything. If you’re a birder there are plenty of birds to see, we spotted on our visit: Spangled Drongo, Helmeted Friarbird, Yellow Bellied Sunbird, Metallic Starlings, Pied Imperial Pigeon/Torres Strait Pigeon, Top Knot Pigeon, Lovely Fairy Wren and Graceful Honeyeaters. The soap is great. You will end up buying some to take home. It’s a place to relax. No phone calls. No e mails. No SMS. That can all be dealt with later. Right now it’s all about the quietness and the views from Wompoo.”  Airbnb, September 2016.
